Blog # 16: Final Reflexion

When I started taking this class I thought that it going to be challenging because the professor has an appearance of being tough. Also, during this semester I had lot of troubles doing my assignments on time because I was going through some personal problems, but my eager to continue with this class help me to finish it with a personal satisfaction. Furthermore, this class helps me to improve my knowledge using many different web pages at the same time, and I learned to use a Blog in the internet. Everything learned in English 102 has been exciting because it has as a main topic " Supernatural " which allowed me to choose my own topic related to it. Moreover, I remember doing my first blog "about me “ it was a kind of easy , but later on the next blogs became a little harder because they needed more time and dedication . I believe that doing the analysis of poems was challenging for me because it was not easy as it sounds. The poems’ stanzas with its lines had a deep meaning on its lecture. There was not easy to find the real meaning of a poem because it could be interpreted in different ways by the reader. Also, analyzing poems help me to understand better its message because nowadays when I read a poem I try to get into the real message of the author. Thus, I enjoy reading poems.
I believe that analyzing a movie was difficult too. A movie can have a deep meaning like poems. For me movies were kind of fun, sad, horrible, and so on. But, the real meaning of those where focus on its contents. For example, the symbols and archetypes used on a movie play an important role on it. Also, places and the environment where the movie was set had an important symbolic significance on it. In fact, nowadays I have fun watching movies because I feel more comfortable understanding its message behind the fiction, adventure, and so on.
Finally, the analysis of books helps me to understand better the message of it. Confucio a great Philosopher said that “reading without meditating is a helpless occupation.” I believe that he is completely right because a reader has to be emerged on a reading, and he/she will be able to critic or to give an opinion of the book’s content. I feel happy to be able to understand more the significance of reading a book because this class helps me to be aware of symbols archetypes, protagonist, antagonist, and plot.
Finally, I would like to say that this class was outstanding because it allowed to use internet resources on its assignments. In fact, I enjoyed this class until the last day. If I have a friend who wants to take this class i will stongly recommended because it is not boring and though.

This amazing movie begings when the Commodor James Norrington (Jack Davenport) of the British Royal Navy proposes to Elizabeth (Keira Knigtley), but before she can answer, she faint and fall off the rampart into the bay. He doesnot escaped for long time because he was captured in the workplace of Willian Turner with who had a fight of swords. Jack was unfotunately knocked unconcious by Mr Brown with a bottle. Later, he was jailed and judged to be hanged the next day. Moreover, that night Port Royal was attacked by the Black Pearl ship in response to the medallion pulse. The Black Pearl was commanded by the Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and its crew. This ship was known as a ghost ship that causes destruction and dead. However, that night during the invation Elizabeth was kidnapped by the Black Pearl's pirats because she had something that belongged to them. Blog 8: Essay # 3

Cat's Dream

How neatly a cat sleeps,
Sleeps with its paws and its posture,
Sleeps with its wicked claws,
And with its unfeeling blood,
Sleeps with all the rings a series
Of burnt circles which have formed
The odd geology of its sand-colored tail.

I should like to sleep like a cat,
With all the fur of time,
With a tongue rough as flint,
With the dry sex of fire and
After speaking to no one,
Stretch myself over the world,
Over roofs and landscapes,
With a passionate desire
To hunt the rats in my dreams.

I have seen how the cat asleep
Would undulate, how the night flowed
Through it like dark water and at times,
It was going to fall or possibly
Plunge into the bare deserted snowdrifts.

Sometimes it grew so much in sleep
Like a tiger's great-grandfather,
And would leap in the darkness over
Rooftops, clouds and volcanoes.

Sleep, sleep cat of the night with
Episcopal ceremony and your stone-carved moustache.
Take care of all our dreams
Control the obscurity
Of our slumbering prowess
With your relentless heart
And the great ruff of your tail.

The poem is composed of five stanzas with irregular number of lines each. The poem is centered on the page. The rhyme scheme is unknown because it does not follow any rythm.

"Cat's Dream" describes how a human being would like to have a cat's life without dilemas. This person wishes to have its style, confort and power. For example, Sleeps with its paws and its posture (line 2)sleeps with all the rings and series (line 5)with the dry sex of fire and after speaking to no one (lines 11,12)sleep, sleep cat of the night with episcopal ceremony and your stone-carved moustache (lines 26,27)like a tiger's great grandfather, and would leap in the darkness over rooftops, clouds and volcanoes(lines 23,24,25)control of obscurity (line 29.)

The relevant symbols in this poem seems to be (1)dream, sleep, night, darkness, and obscurity (2) cat, tiger, and rat (3)pawns and claws, blood and heart, sex.

First of all, the poem is related to a "Cat's Dream," implying that some people would like to have a cat's life because it has not to deal with problems. As a result, cat's style of life is a way of escaping from dilemas. "Dream" is a common word that is associated to sleep at night. His father moved to a different town called Temuco where his father remarried Dona Trinidad Valverde. Also, the poet spent his childhood and youth life in Temuco. Pablo Neruda at the early age of thirteen contributed some articles and poems to the daily “La MaƱana” ,and later he contributed to the journal “Selva Austral.” Some of the first Pablo Neruda’s poems were published in the book named “Crepusculo” in 1923. He studied French and Pedagogy at the University of Chile in Santiago.Futhermore,he was the Chilean consul in Rangoon, in Java, and then in Barcelona. He joined the Communist Party after the Second World War. Between 1970 and 1973 he served in Allende’s Chilean Government as ambassador to Paris. He married Matilde Urrutia. This well known poet had lot publications of his books. For example, Cien Sonetos de Amor ( 1959), Arte de Pajaros ( 1966), La Barcola ( 19670), Fin del Mundo ( 1969), Las Piedras del Cielo ( 1970). He died of cancer in 1973.

The relevant symbols in this poem seems to be (1) sleep, dream, night, obscurity, sex, (2) control, tiger.

First of all, the poem is involved in a "Cat's Dream," implying the manner of sleeping of a cat. It is possible to see that "Sleep is a state of reduced consciousness during which a human or animal rests in a daily rhythm" (wiktionary.org). Also, the Diccionary of Symbolism this word represents the night which is typically associated with the obscurity and mystery of darkness. Moreover, this word has a relationship with dreams, sexual pleasure, and death. "Dream" is another symbol that is part of sleep because it has succession of images, thoughts, or emotions passing through the mind during sleep. "Night" represents the period spent sleeping. "Obscutity" is represented by darkness which it is characterized for the absence of light. "Sex" represents the instinct or attraction drawing one sex toward another, or its manifestation in life and conduct. And, other symbols that have special meaning in this poem are "Control" which means the activity of managing or exerting control over something, in this case over the obscutity (line 29). "Tiger" is considred a striped great cat (Panthera tigris.)Tigers are solitary, nocturnal hunters. All these symbols have something in common that connects the Cat's Dream poem.

The tone of this poem is relating a human being wishing to have a cat's life because its life looks easier than any human being upon the planet Earth. Furthermore, this poem makes the audience use their imagination, fantasies about living for a moment an irreal life. Thus, its tone has aconnection with dreaming life.

In conclusion, this poem has a message to the audience that is to keep dreaming all the time because it does not exist age for it. Moreover, I believe that this poem imply to people to not worried too much about the outside world problems at least for a moment.

Blog 3: Tones and Symbolism

I have chosen this outstanding poem "Death Alone" by Pablo Neruda because its saddly content of death makes me think about the other side of the coin.. This writter was born Parral, Chile. He studied in Santiago in the twenties. From 1927 to 1945 he was the Chilean consul in Rangoon, in Java, and then in Barcelona. He joined the Communist Party after the Second World War. Also, I chose this poem because it connects me with supernatural things which is the main topic of 102 ENG class.
Tone is a method of expression of felings and emotions that a writer use it in order to convey through its writting to readers.
Moreover, the tone in this poem applied by Pablo Neruda reflects his sadness and lonelyness related to death. In fact, his pain is to meet the other side of the coin when somebody is alive.
Symbolism is a way of appling symbols to describe things according to writer's topic. The symbolism in this poem have many signals that have relationship with feelings, places and things. All these signals of death are very impotant in the written description of the poem because it help readers to have a wide inmagination of things.
In conclusion, this poem tell readers about how much valious is life because when somebody is alive everything is fantastic, but when a human being died everything turns glommy. Thus, I believe that human beings have enjoy life to the maximun. It means having a great respect to life because there is only one.

Blog 2: Death Alone by Pablo Neruda

I have chosen this poem "Death Alone" by Pablo Neruda because this poem makes me think about how human beings' life is so valious. As a result, It makes me apreciate my life day by day.

Death Alone

There are lone cemeteries,
tombs full of soundless bones,
the heart threading a tunnel,
a dark, dark tunnel :
like a wreck we die to the very core,
as if drowning at the heart
or collapsing inwards from skin to soul.

There are corpses,
clammy slabs for feet,
there is death in the bones,
like a pure sound,
a bark without its dog,
out of certain bells, certain tombs
swelling in this humidity like lament or rain.

I see, when alone at times,
coffins under sail
setting out with the pale dead, women in their dead braids,
bakers as white as angels,
thoughtful girls married to notaries,
coffins ascending the vertical river of the dead,
the wine-dark river to its source,
with their sails swollen with the sound of death,
filled with the silent noise of death.

Death is drawn to sound
like a slipper without a foot, a suit without its wearer,
comes to knock with a ring, stoneless and fingerless,
comes to shout without a mouth, a tongue, without a throat.
Nevertheless its footsteps sound
and its clothes echo, hushed like a tree.

I do not know, I am ignorant, I hardly see
but it seems to me that its song has the colour of wet violets,
violets well used to the earth,
since the face of death is green,
and the gaze of death green
with the etched moisture of a violet's leaf
and its grave colour of exasperated winter.

But death goes about the earth also, riding a broom
lapping the ground in search of the dead -
death is in the broom,
it is the tongue of death looking for the dead,
the needle of death looking for the thread.

Death lies in our beds :
in the lazy mattresses, the black blankets,
lives a full stretch and then suddenly blows,
blows sound unknown filling out the sheets
and there are beds sailing into a harbour
where death is waiting, dressed as an admiral.
